Meanwhile, back in Arizona's Madera Canyon area we were shooting various birds from a blind and managed to get this Gambel's Quail.
My main setup was a D800 with a 200-400 Nikkor mounted on a Manfrotto Carbon Fibre tripod with the Manfrotto 393 Gimbal mount. But off to one side was a skeleton Cholla cactus where birds were landing, so I set up my D7000 with a Nikkor 70-200mm on a Bogen tripod so I could reach over and press the shutter, set on C2 drive.
The male came back a few times and every now and then lifted his head so I got a catch light in his eye.

Spider Spire, Canyon de Chelly
|Taken with a Nikon D800, 16-35mm Nikkor, 32mm, ISO 100, f4, 1/100th, waiting for the light 40 minutes.|
How can they speak in the cathedral-presence of this marvel of nature and a 2000-year old culture. I want to yell: "Silence you heathens - be gone ye blasphemers."
I don't - I just breath in the majesty and linger in the setting sun.
This is a place I have to come back to. Magnificent. Grand. Overwhelming.

We've been on the road for over three weeks now but blogging has proved to be a challenge.
Despite our best efforts at staying connected we have found that our Verizon and T Mobile systems will seldom connect - for cell service or web. For wireless connections we have resorted to hitting MacDonald's and the occasional RV campground, like the Queen Mine RV Park in Bisbee Arizona, where we are now.
Hopefully here we will have a chance to really get connected, caught up and blogged up.
In the meantime if you want to see some of what we have been shooting go to my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/richardtwrightphotography.
I am trying to post here as often as possible.
We have been through Death Valley, San Diego, Yuma, a winter storm in Flagstaff and 33 deg heat in Organ Pipe National Monument. We have shot birds a plenty and many magnificent sites. Stay tuned.
